Another year, another disappointment for Alex Ovechkin.
The Great Eight’s wait to make his first deep postseason run will extend to at least his 11th NHL season after the Rangers dispatched the Capitals 2-1 in overtime of Game 7 Wednesday night on Derek Stepan’s overtime goal in front of a raucous sellout crowd at Madison Square Garden.
“We played a great game,” Ovechkin said quietly while sitting surrounded by reporters in the Capitals locker room. “One goal decided the series.”
Unlike in past Game 7 defeats, however, Ovechkin could hold his head somewhat high after this one.
