Surprisingly, injured Klein participates at morning skate

In a surprise turnaround that could provide sports medicine journals with material, Kevin Klein’s fractured right thumb is apparently healing at warp speed.

The defenseman, who was injured late in Tuesday’s loss to the Devils on a check from Reid Boucher, did not play Thursday against the Wild, but the timetable described Wednesday as “out indefinitely” has vastly improved.

In full uniform, Klein joined the morning skate at the Garden on Thursday, wearing a splint and shooting pucks without much discomfort.

“We didn’t know how long it was going to be and he obviously responded very well to the doctor’s news, and with the splint, he was able to handle the puck,” said Vigneault, who reiterated that the injury was indeed a fracture.
