New York Rangers 2018 sixth-round pick Simon Kjellberg will be moving from Sweden to play for the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the United States Hockey League (USHL) for the 2018-2019 season, multiple sources confirmed to Blueshirt Banter.
The presumptive path seems to be an eventual move to NCAA hockey, though that’s not necessarily locked in yet.
Kjellberg, who played primarily in Sweden’s U20 SuperElit last season, is very raw. As such, this would be a smart move for him to make. It’s a level of play that won’t be overwhelming while he adapts to North American hockey, and the four-year college path would ensure that he has a quite a while to develop before turning pro.
