Elliote Friedman reported this afternoon that the New York Rangers placed defenseman Jack Johnson on waivers. While there is a possibility that he gets claimed, Johnson passing through waivers makes things a bit easier for the Rangers when it comes to finagling the salary cap.
Johnson was signed by the Rangers on July 1st after he was bought out by the Pittsburgh Penguins and has skated in 13 games for the Rangers. The Indianapolis native has battled a lower body injury that has forced him in and out of the lineup, rotating with the likes of Libor Hajek, Brendan Smith, and Anthony Bitietto.
