Rangers won’t name captain in surprising move

The Rangers will remain without a captain for the second straight season.

Though many speculated emerging top-line center Mika Zibanejad would get the “C” sewn to his sweater, the Blueshirts will go with only the same four alternate captains they had a season ago — Zibanejad, Marc Staal, Chris Kreider and Jesper Fast.

Despite second-year coach David Quinn saying he would prefer to have a captain — if one becomes undeniable — the club will continue to go without one since it traded away Ryan McDonagh in February 2018.

The 26-year-old Zibanejad has become one of the leaders on the team as he enters his fifth season on Broadway, having come over as part of the trade coup that sent Derick Brassard to the Senators in the summer of 2016.
