The next time someone suggests that Alain Vigneault is somewhere in outer space, the coach will only have himself to blame.
For Vigneault on Thursday framed his response to whether he considered last year’s Presidents’ Trophy winning season to have been a failure by citing Tom Hanks’ classic “Apollo 13,” the movie about the 1970 lunar mission that had to be aborted after the explosion of an onboard oxygen tank.
The three crew members — Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert and Fred W. Haise — made it home safely following a harrowing reentry.
“I’d seen it a couple of times before, but there were two phrases that stuck with me,” Vigneault said on Thursday.
