The Rangers announced on Tuesday that they acquired defenseman Rob O’Gara of Nesconset and a third-round pick in the 2018 draft from the Boston Bruins for defenseman Nick Holden.
O’Gara, 24, went to Smithtown East High School, but eventually transferred to Milton Academy, a prep school near Boston with a historically strong hockey program.
The Bruins drafted O’Gara in the fifth round in 2011, but O’Gara ended up attending Yale University. O’Gara signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Bruins March 28, 2016.
O’Gara has appeared in eight games for the Bruins this season, but has played most of this season with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League.
