Per Larry Brooks, the Rangers will move on from Brendan Smith.
Smith, who never quite lived up to that four year, $4.2 million contract, was still a useful piece for the Rangers. In the right situation, he put up decent numbers. Specifically, he was fine on the third pair and was a solid depth defenseman. However it was the contract that stood out to most people.
Smith is someone who would have been fine as a 7D, but I’m sure he would want to try to get a top-six role somewhere else.
