Still with a need at center and with very little salary-cap room, the Rangers are hoping a second chance might save the day.
The Blueshirts inked beleaguered pivot Jarret Stoll to a one-year, $800,000 deal on Monday. Stoll, 33, was an unrestricted free agent after spending the past seven seasons with the Kings, with whom he won two Stanley Cups in the past four seasons.
Also the boyfriend of television personality Erin Andrews, Stoll was charged with felony cocaine possession stemming from an arrest in Las Vegas on April 17. He was caught with cocaine and MDMA while entering a pool party for an unofficial end-of-the-season soiree with Los Angeles teammates.
