The Rangers have re-signed defenseman Brandon Scanlin to a 1 year contract, avoiding arbitration with their only arbitration eligible skater this offseason. It’s not the last skater they need to re-sign, that is Alexis Lafreniere, but Scanlin was headed for arbitration and the contract closes out that step in the offseason. As a reminder, Lafreniere is not arbitration eligible.
Scanlin is AHL depth on the blue line, and is –at best– the 9D on the Rangers. If he’s playing with the Blueshirts, something went horribly wrong in the injury department. But he’s been good depth for the Wolf Pack, and something that has been sorely needed now that the Rangers are remembering the AHL actually exists.
