Rangers president Glen Sather to be honored by Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers announced Monday that when the Rangers visit Rexall Place on Dec. 11, the organization will raise a banner to honor current Rangers president Glen Sather, who built his legend by guiding the Oilers to five Stanley Cup championships from 1984 through 1990.

Sather, who recently relinquished his post as Blueshirts general manager to Jeff Gorton, is a giant of the game of hockey, having won four Cups as Oilers head coach (1984, ’85, ’87 and ’88) and one as Oilers president and GM (1990).

He is also celebrated locally in Edmonton for creating the Oilers’ legacy of community and philanthropic involvement of its players and staff.
