Mika Zibanejad’s father, Mehrdad, was born in Iran, but the Rangers’ center was born in Huddinge, Sweden on April 18, 1993, after his dad emigrated in the early 1980s in the wake of the revolution in which the Shah was overthrown and Ayatollah Khomeini gained control of the government.
“I am only a Swedish citizen; not dual,” Zibanejad, whose father now lives in the U.S., said Monday when asked if President Trump’s executive order regarding travel from seven predominantly Muslim countries, including Iran, would have an impact on his ability to travel freely between the U.S. and Canada.
