The Rangers announced on Friday that rookie winger Oscar Lindberg underwent successful hip surgery and the recovery time is expected to be six months.
Thus Lindberg will not be ready for the start of the season, and could miss the first month or more. The injury occurred over time, with wear and tear.
Dr. Bryan Kelly at the Hospital for Special Surgery performed the simultaneous bilateral hip labral repair.
Lindberg, 24, who lost his regular spot in the lineup once the Rangers obtained rental Eric Staal at the trade deadline, had 13 goals, 15 assists in 68 games.
