This 13th defeat in the Rangers’ past 18 games (5-8-5) was of the old-fashioned, regulation type out of which there was little salve. It was 6-1 on Friday to the Avalanche, a team that had lost six straight, in this opener of a three-game trip that continues Sunday against the Coyotes before concluding Tuesday night against the Golden Knights.
