Rangers' Kevin Klein out indefinitely with broken thumb

GREENBURGH, N.Y. — Rangers defenseman Kevin Klein, who left Tuesday’s game in New Jersey with about three minutes remaining after a check from the Devils’ Reid Boucher, has a fractured thumb and is out indefinitely, the team said today.

Klein, who skated off holding his right hand, fell awkwardly into the boards on the check, has played in 38 games and led the team at plus-14. That’s tied for ninth in the league among defensemen.

The veteran blueliner likely will be replaced in Thursday’s game against the Minnesota Wild at Madison Square Garden by rookie Dylan McIlrath.
