Rangers hope Brandon Pirri can ignite power play

TORONTO — Can Brandon Pirri help jump start the Rangers power play, which is 3-for-39 and has slid into 15th place in the NHL?

One game might not be enough to make a judgment, especially after Pirri has been a healthy scratch for nine games, but coach Alain Vigneault is turning to Pirri for Thursday’s clash with Maple Leafs.

Pirri, who steps in for rookie Pavel Buchnevich, was stationed on the right half wall in the offensive zone on one power-play unit during the morning skate with Brady Skjei, Rick Nash, Kevin Hayes and J.T. Miller.

“It’s a place I’m comfortable,” Pirri said.
