DETROIT — The prognosis for Kevin Hayes’ lower-body injury was not immediately known, but it would be a huge blow for the Rangers if they lost the center for any extended period of time.

Hayes was hurt in the second period of the Blueshirts’ 1-0 overtime victory against the Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena on Sunday. It was hard to tell when exactly the injury occurred, but Hayes’ last shift came with 3:10 left in the second period and he didn’t return for the start of the third, playing 8:41 total.

“It’s lower-body,” was all coach Alain Vigneault would disclose.
