Rangers get off to fast start, overcome mistakes to beat Sabres

BUFFALO — The Rangers survived a third-period assault by the Sabres Tuesday night, clinging to a one-goal lead over the final 20 minutes until J.T. Miller scored into an empty net with one minute to play for a 4-2 win at First Niagara Center.

The Sabres, who outshot the Rangers 19-4 in the final period, were arguing that an icing should have been called on the play before Miller scored, but no call was made.

The Rangers broke to a three-goal lead, then held on for the second half of the game. The Rangers (39-22-6) have 84 points and have beaten the Sabres nine consecutive times.
