Since coach Alain Vigneault joined the Rangers for the 2013-14 season, the list of fourth-line alumni includes Tanner Glass, Arron Asham, Dan Carcillo, James Sheppard, Derek Dorsett, Dom Moore, Taylor Pyatt, Ryan Malone and Chris Mueller. They were mostly older defensive specialists, players with size, or skaters who didn’t mind mixing it up.
But no trio had the speed and overall offensive skill of the young fourth line that started Tuesday night’s game: Pavel Buchnevich, 21, Brandon Pirri, 25, and Jesper Fast, 24.
