The Rangers do not have a first-round pick in the NHL draft for a third straight year — at least they didn’t as of Thursday night.
They are without a selection Friday night at the BB&T Center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., (rounds two through seven are Saturday) due to Glen Sather’s expensive spring 2014 trade for Martin St. Louis, which sent Ryan Callahan, last year’s first-round pick and this year’s 28th selection to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
However, the Blueshirts do have backup goaltender Cam Talbot, whom they could trade before the draft even begins, perhaps for a first-round pick.
