Alain Vigneault returned to the New York area two weeks ago to find the Mets and Yankees both seemingly playoff bound, an interesting development to the Rangers’ French-Canadian coach, considering what he remembered hearing when he left for Canada after last season’s playoffs.
“I remember leaving here at the beginning of June and your baseball comrades, experts were all saying the Yankees and Mets had no chance,” Vigneault said with a laugh on Thursday in Greenburgh to open training camp. “And all of a sudden, I come back and both those teams are there. I really believe New York is real close to that famous unconditional love for both those teams.
