Rangers-Canadiens now a rivalry? If so, it’s a one-sided one

Henrik Lundqvist is pulled from the game in the third period of the Rangers' 5-1 loss to the Canadiens on Wednesday night at the Garden.

It is the rivalry that never really has been one, the matchup between the Rangers and Montreal, and perhaps it is no wonder given the respective lineages of these two Original Six franchises.

For one can imagine the lordly Habitants sniffing and turning up their noses at the mere mention of the plebian Blueshirts with Montreal’s 24 Stanley Cups, the most in NHL history, as compared the New York’s four, the fewest among the Original Six.
