The Rangers, buoyed by deep playoff runs, have been penciled in as Eastern Conference contenders the past few seasons. But their 2016 Stanley Cup run ended after five games and this offseason started a slow transition from the core group responsible for that past success.
But with change comes the possibility of the unknown.
