PHILADELPHIA — Mats Zuccarello and Derek Stepan scored in the shootout Saturday to lift the Rangers to a 3-2 victory over the Flyers, a game marred by complaints over officiating and the loss of captain Ryan McDonagh to a head injury on a sucker punch from Wayne Simmonds.
A thrilling 3 on 3 overtime, which was forced by Keith Yandle’s goal with 12.9 seconds left in regulation, didn’t create a result. But Zuccarello scored against Steve Mason in the first round of the shootout, after Sam Gagner shot wide. Henrik Lundqvist’s pokecheck denied Claude Giroux’s try and Strepna ended it with a wrister.
