Rangers battle despite playing shorthanded before losing to Caps in OT

WASHINGTON — With Mats Zuccarello off to Dallas, and Kevin Hayes and Adam McQuaid out of the lineup while waiting to be traded, the Rangers had to try and get up to play one more hockey game this weekend, Sunday afternoon against the defending Stanley Cup champion Capitals.

Perhaps a little bit numb after all the emotions everyone went through Saturday, when Zuccarello was shipped out to Dallas for a pair of conditional second-round picks, the Rangers — without Hayes, McQuaid and Zuccarello — managed to come from two goals down in the third period to force overtime, but Evgeny Kuznetsov’s goal with 39.
