Just as Kevin Klein got promoted, he got injured.
Rangers coach Alain Vigneault moved the right defenseman back up to the top pair for Monday night’s 4-3 win over the Hurricanes at the Garden, but just 6:31 into the first period, Klein was doubled over and calling for the training staff on the way to the locker room.
“He strained a muscle in his abdomen,” Vigneault said after Klein did not return. “We’ll know more [Tuesday].”
The Rangers played the rest of the game with five defensemen, and only two on the right side.
