Rangers avoid Hurricanes meltdown to keep winning ways going

They thought they had turned a corner — and maybe they took it a little too fast. But still, the Rangers seem to be on the other side of this debilitating inconsistency.

Despite a lapse late in the second period, the Blueshirts managed to hold on for a 3-2 win over the Hurricanes on Wednesday night at the Garden. Allowing a 3-0 lead to turn into a 3-2 nail-biter might not have been ideal, but this time, the result ended up the way they wanted.

The Rangers (12-9-2) had come into the game feeling as if they had found some traction through the inconsistent start to the season, having a dramatic comeback win in Montreal on Saturday night followed up by a 3-2 overtime win against the visiting Wild on Monday.
