The New York Rangers announced Friday that winger Brennan Othmann was assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League.
The 2021 first-round pick got a long look in the preseason by head coach Peter Laviolette and made the most of it. He registered two goals in five preseason games.
The decision to assign the 20-year-old to the AHL was not unexpected. With the team’s top-nine essentially set, giving Othmann top-line minutes with the Wolf Pack made more sense from a developmental standpoint than having him get 8 minutes a night on the fourth line.
