The Rangers traded for defenseman Jacob Trouba from the Winnipeg Jets, giving up Neal Pionk and the 20th overall pick in Friday's NHL Draft, the team announced on Monday.
Trouba is a restricted free agent who needs a new contract.
Trouba, 25, gives the rebuilding Rangers a legitimate top-pairing defenseman to speed their move toward being playoff contenders again.
Trouba played in 82 games last season, racking up eight goals, 50 points and 42 assists, as well as a plus-eight rating and 58 penalty minutes. He's played in 408 NHL games over the course of six seasons.
