Coming into the 2021 season, one of the New York Rangers’ top candidates to be traded at the deadline was Pavel Buchnevich. The reasons were simple.
- He was in the final year of a two year contract and destined for arbitration eligible RFA status.
- He was about to be supplanted on the right side of the top six by Kaapo Kakko and Vitali Kravtsvov
- He had shown flashes of potential, but the enigmatic forward had never developed as much as the team had hoped.
