The New York Rangers went through cap gymnastics to acquire Patrick Kane at the trade deadline last season. Thankfully, GM Chris Drury didn’t have to give up much to get him on Broadway since Kane would only waive his full no-move clause for the bright lights of the Garden.
In exchange, the Blueshirts packaged defenseman Andy Welinski, a conditional second round pick in 2023, and a 2025 fourth round pick to the Chicago Blackhawks for Kane and AHL defenseman Cooper Zech.
Kane, 34, registered 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists) in 19 regular-season matches and added 6 points (1 goal, 5 assists) in 7 postseason contests for the Rangers after the trade.
