Per Daily Faceoff (Frank Seravalli and Mike McKenna), the NY Rangers have interest in San Jose Sharks winger Timo Meier to augment their top-six at the trade deadline.
Meier is a name we’ve mentioned a bunch (last week’s Patreon post, Patreon post from two weeks ago, in December, earlier in December). He’s a pure shooter, something the Rangers sorely need. The problem with Meier is the acquisition cost, which will be high, and that he’s not a pure rental. As an RFA with a qualifying offer of $10 million, he’d cost more up front to acquire and then the Rangers would need to either trade him at the draft to recoup assets, or find a way to make the salary work.
