The first assistant coaching domino has fallen, with the NY Rangers hiring Michael Peca as an assistant coach to Peter Laviolette’s staff. Peca. Peca has most recently been an Assistant Coach with the Rochester Americans. They lost in the Conference Final this season. Before his two seasons with Rochester, Peca was a development coach with the Washington Capitals, overlapping with Laviolette’s time there.
Peca comes with a bit of an ego from his OJHL coaching days, which is fine. Perhaps the Rangers need that kind of a guy behind the bench, getting them to move and be a bit stricter than the head coach.
