NHL takes stage in Newark, but Jackson an inspiration

Gary Bettman, Mike Richter and Pat LaFontaine were discussing the importance of athletes’ social involvement on a panel Wednesday morning in Newark when the environmentally-conscious Richter – the Rangers’ 1994 Stanley Cup-winning goaltender – joked about a possible NHL comeback.

“We would actually hope that the NHL would start recycling players,” Richter, 48, laughed.

Bettman, the NHL’s commissioner, smiled.

“You’re welcome back anytime,” he said.

Don’t worry, Rangers fans. Henrik Lundqvist’s job is safe.
