Jeff Gorton fired Alain Vigneault after four moderately succesful seasons as head coach. The highs under the coach were amazing. A Stanley Cup finals appearance, a President’s Trophy and a trip to the conference finals comprise a solid resume. However, missing the playoffs with a talented but flawed roster was too much to overcome.
The Rangers were expected to be in the same range as last season. They were supposed to be a lock for the postseason and then once you make the tournament, anything can happen. Instead, the team capitulated and outright waived the white flag. Henrik Lundqvist wasted a season of his illustrious career with this dreck.
