New York Rangers’ Signing Vesey Doesn’t Solve Problems

The New York Rangers landed Jim Vesey after the former Hobey Baker Award winner had a Lebron James-esque recruiting tour. Vesey, 23, was considered the prize of free agency. Vesey opted to not sign with the Nashville Predators—the team that drafted him—in the spring, had his rights traded to the Buffalo Sabres and then hit free agency on August 15th.

Signing Vesey is great for the Rangers long-term outlook, but it does not solve the teams’ problem for this upcoming season.

On one hand, you love to see the Rangers going after young, cost controlled players. In a salary cap world, you need young guys on cheap contracts to make a difference.
