David Desharnais slots behind Mika Zibanejad and Kevin Hayes. He is the first veteran NHL forward the Rangers have added this offseason.
The signing fills one of the holes Derek Stepan and Oscar Lindberg left behind.
Desharnais scored 14 points last season in a down year split between Montreal and Edmonton. He spent almost his entire career up to now with Montreal. He turns 31 in September.
What he brings
Despite taking one of the jobs Stepan and Lindberg left behind, Desharnais plays a very different game.
Stepan centered the first line, killed, penalties, and gave strong two-way play.
