With the recent news of Mitch Marner’s contract extension in Toronto and some other headlining moves in the off-season, the Leafs could have a shot at finishing number one in the Atlantic Division this season. While the Leafs tend to remain a threat during the regular season, their postseason results have been extremely frustrating for Toronto fans. The last Stanley Cup the Leafs claimed was back in 1967, just two years shy of matching the longest-standing Stanley Cup drought, an infamous title belonging to the New York Rangers.
The pressure is on this season for Toronto, indisputably. Between wishing to avoid breaking the Cup drought record, and more importantly facing some looming cap issues, coach Mike Babcock and the Leafs will have to figure out how to move forward as a successful franchise.
