Ryan McDonagh is gone and the New York Rangers are heading into uncharted territory under general manager Jeff Gorton. Their first test will come against another lottery team in the Vancouver Canucks.
Both the Rangers and the Canucks are in a rebuilding phase, though the Rangers seem to have bought in much more than Vancouver has in theirs. For the most part, the Canucks stood pat at the deadline, only moving Thomas Vanek in what has become a yearly tradition.
The Canucks do have some high-end young talent. Brock Boeser is second to only Mathew Barzal among rookies for points.
