The New York Rangers dropped out of the playoff picture officially a week ago. They were joined by the Flyers on Saturday when they lost to Carolina. Philadelphia is the tenth team to be eliminated and that leaves Montreal as the only Eastern Conference team still fighting for a wild card spot.
The Flyers gave it a good run after a disastrous beginning to their season. Their ineptitude resulted in the firing of general manager Ron Hextall and a few weeks later, coach Dave Hakstol.
Under new GM Chuck Fletcher and interim coach Scott Gordon the team staged a revival and contended for a playoff spot until today.
