After trades and injuries to the defensive unit, rookies had to be called up to fill those spots. Neal Pionk, Tony DeAngelo, John Gilmour, and Ryan Sproul got valuable playing they weren’t expecting to have at the beginning of the season.
But Pionk has been the one defenseman who has stood out in his playing time for all the right reasons.
The 22-year-old former Minnesota-Duluth Bulldog got his first taste of NHL hockey earlier in the season.
