Unfortunately, the Rasmus Dahlin pipedream is over. The perpetually rebuilding Buffalo Sabres got lucky enough to get the number one overall pick. Even worse, the New York Rangers were selected to pick ninth, a pick lower than where they finished in the standings. For those who were against tearing it all down and selling, this seems like a validation.
However, players selected in the top ten are still quality prospects. There is plenty of value in NHL draft picks in every round, let alone the top ten. The key for the Rangers will be extracting proper value from their number nine pick.
