For Kevin Hayes, the potential has always been there.
He’s big, strong, and has incredible playmaking ability. But something was always missing. In the first three years of his career he had moments, but couldn’t put it all together consistently.
This past season, Hayes actually posted his second lowest point total in a season with 44 tallies. He recorded 45, 39, and 49 points in first three seasons, respectively.
Even though it was a struggle for the first half of the season, following the trade deadline, something clicked.
While most of the Rangers struggled in the last half of the season leading to a disastrous finish, Hayes was one of the few bright spots.
