No one should start designing Henrik Lundqvist’s Hall of Fame plaque just yet. The Swede has repeatedly affirmed his desire to play out the final two years of his contract as a member of the New York Rangers. Barring a dramatic change of heart, the best goaltender in the history of the franchise will play into the twilight of his career for New York.
Yet, despite the team’s obvious loyalty to Lundqvist, it does need to start lining up the future. At 37-years-old, Lundqvist is expected to be the second oldest starter in the league behind the Florida Panther’s 40-year-old Roberto Luongo.
