The New York Rangers cut seven players, but still have 48 players on their training camp roster. Expect to see more cuts over the next few days after they give some players an opportunity to play in the first few preseason games.
The cuts included goalies Francois Brassard and Tom McCollum, Defensemen Nico Gross and Hunter Skinner and forwards Ryan Gropp, Ville Meskanen and Ty Ronning.
The seven players cut were not unexpected, but do confirm some concerns about the development of some players in the organization. By dropping Gropp, Meskanen and Ronning so early, it shows how far they have slipped in the depth chart among Rangers prospects.
