New York Rangers draft Filip Chytil with the 21st pick

After four drafts with no first round selections, New York made two in 2017. Following a day of trade speculation, the Rangers kept pick 21 and used it to take Filip Chytil.

SCOUTING REPORT

Though somewhat of an off-the-board choice, Chytil has a strong two-way game, just like previous selection Lias Andersson. While just 17, Chytil spent most of the season playing against men in the Czech Extraliga. The center posted four goals and four assists in 38 games with HC Zlin.

Prospect writer Ben Kerr describes Chytil with the following:

Filip Chytil has the potential to develop into a top-six centre.
