At the deadline in ’94, the Rangers traded rising star Tony Amonte and veteran scorer Mike Gartner for size and grit they needed to get through the playoffs and hoist the Cup. In recent history, they have made some successful moves at the deadline, but have not been able to acquire that final piece to the championship puzzle.
Many have not worked out well for the Rangers, as they have parted with numerous young assets. In many cases, the rental player did not gel with the team and moved on after an early playoff exit with the Rangers.
