The Rangers and Red Wings came into tonight’s game with opposing mindsets. The Rangers looked to build on a dominant 6-1 win against Carolina on Wednesday. The Red Wings, however, looked to rebound after a 6-2 loss against Edmonton that same night.
After high-scoring games earlier in the week, it was all about goaltending in this matchup. Jimmy Howard had a rebound performance after being pulled in the Edmonton game, and Henrik Lundqvist continued to be solid in net for the Rangers.
In the first period, the Red Wings put on the offensive pressure. Their forecheck put the Rangers on their heels as they put 17 shots on Lunqvist.
