Only a heroic effort from backup goaltender Ondrej Pavelec allowed the Rangers to keep pace in the standings. Pavelec had his second straight 40-save effort, keeping the Rangers in the game they had no business hanging around in through regulation.
The Stars completely dominated the first period. They outshot the Rangers, 16-5, and controlled the play for long stretches. Pavelec made a few brilliants aves to keep the Rangers in a scoreless tie.
