Going into tonight’s matchup at Madison Square Garden, the New York Rangers and Boston Bruins were trending in opposite directions. The Rangers have won one of their last nine games, and the Bruins won nine of their last 11 games.
The first period progressed at a breakneck pace. Newly acquired Cody McLeod showed off his physicality in a fight with Boston’s Adam McQuaid. Then, five minutes into the period, Rick Nash scored the only Rangers goal unassisted.
The Rangers had the majority of their offensive chances in the first period. Multiple shots hit the post, and Bruins goaltender Anton Khudobin made some key saves.
